PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday that starting quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss an indefinite amount of game time after team physicians discovered that what was initially diagnosed as a blood clot is, in fact, a tiny sentient gremlin who has taken up residence in Hurts' left calf and refuses to pay rent or vacate the premises. The gremlin, described by medical staff as 'about the size of a walnut but with the energy of a divorced accountant at a buffet,' was first detected during a routine MRI when radiologists noticed it waving at the camera.
'We've seen a lot of things in this locker room,' said Dr. Phillip Vanthorpe, the Eagles' Director of Biological Anomalies and Part-Time Smoothie Consultant, 'but this gremlin has reviewed our last four game films and frankly, his notes are uncomfortably valid. We can't in good conscience remove him until we address the third-down conversion rate.'
The gremlin, who has since been given a press credential and a folding chair in the film room, reportedly communicated his complaints via a series of aggressive leg cramps and what one trainer described as 'Morse code, but meaner.' Sources close to the situation confirm the gremlin has also filed a formal grievance with the NFL Players Association on Hurts' behalf, citing 'hostile working conditions' and 'an inexcusable lack of pocket protection.'
Hurts addressed reporters from his hospital bed with characteristic composure, stating only, 'I trust the process. The gremlin also trusts the process. We are aligned.' He then winced slightly, which team officials confirmed was the gremlin disagreeing about the word 'aligned.'
League officials say this marks the third gremlin-related injury in NFL history, the previous two having been quietly settled out of court and expunged from the record at the request of a franchise that sources will only describe as 'very cold and very midwestern.' Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement saying the NFL is 'monitoring the situation closely' and that a gremlin expansion draft cannot be ruled out for the 2026 season.
As of press time, the gremlin had requested his own locker, a licensing deal, and a formal apology from the offensive line, two of whom have reportedly already complied.
